Subject: Permission for conducting seminar

Dear Miss Phillips,

I, on behalf of the students of the English Department of St Edwards College, formally ask your permission to hold a seminar on the topic “Treatment of women in the plays of William Shakespeare” in the Cotton Hall on November 1, 2012 from 10 am to 1 pm. The seminar will be attended by all the students of the department, the teachers and invitations will be sent to all the major colleges in the area. We will provide you a list of the final guest speakers as soon as we get confirmation from there. There should be at least 500 people attending the seminar from all over the city.

We feel this is an interesting topic which we can discuss and also add to our knowledge of the playwright and the time he lived in. There will also be a question and answer round for 45 minutes where we hope to engage in a thought-provoking discussion. We will also ask permission from the Dean regarding any financial resources, if required, and other arrangements if you grant us permission first. Thank you for your time.

Yours truly,

Abby Williams
